Giving Back
Giving back to our local communities is an important part of the culture at Lifestyle Family Fitness.
We contribute to a variety of charitable organizations. This year we will focus on four main charitable causes — American Heart Association, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and breast cancer awareness charities — all close to the hearts of our employees and culture.
In addition to these four charities, we donate memberships throughout the year to organizations holding raffles and silent auctions to help raise money for their individual causes. We align ourselves with causes that focus on promoting health and fitness.
American Heart Association
Many of us have a loved one affected by heart disease or stroke. Heart disease and stroke are our nation's No. 1 and No. 3 killers. According to the American Heart Association, physical inactivity significantly increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. Seventy percent of Americans don’t get enough exercise, blaming lack of time and lack of motivation. Ignoring fitness and health increases the risk for heart disease, stroke and other diseases. Lifestyle Family Fitness supports the American Heart Association throughout the year, participating in AHA events and raising money for the association.
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) is the leading nonprofit, nongovernmental funder of diabetes research in the world. It was founded in 1970 by a group of parents that believed a cure for the disease that affected their children could be found through the support of research. Since its inception, JDRF’s mission has remained to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of the world’s most cutting-edge research. JDRF is consistently noted as one of the most cost-efficient organizations in the world, providing over 80% of every dollar to research. Since its inception JDRF has provided more than $1.5 billion to research and more than $107 million last year alone. This is a disease that affects nearly 26 million Americans and is one we must tackle aggressively. Lifestyle Family Fitness participates in JDRF "Walk to Cure Diabetes" events in our communities, and lends support to this foundation through volunteer and financial assistance.
Big Brothers Big Sisters
Big Brothers Big Sisters helps children realize their potential and build their futures. They nurture children and strengthen communities. Lifestyle Family Fitness participates in the Big Brother Big Sister school based program where LFF employees spend time with their ‘little’ at his or her school. The kids enjoy having their big’s meet with them either in the classroom or on the playground. This program helps build the friendship between big’s and little’s providing guidance and inspiring them to reach their potential.
Breast Cancer Awareness
Breastcancer.org states that about 1 in 8 women in the United States will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. Lifestyle Family Fitness supports the women in our lives by contributing to many breast cancer awareness charities such as American Cancer Society, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and additional local foundations. It is important to spread awareness of this deadly disease and we do so by holding in-club group fitness events, participating in local charity walks and sponsoring breast cancer specific walks and regional events.
