Lifestyle Family Fitness Offers Fitness Options for the Elderly
St. Petersburg, FL (September 2010) – As our bodies age it becomes even more important to integrate a fitness routine into daily lives as muscle mass decreases when age increases. Beginning in the fourth decade of life adults loses 3%-5% of muscle mass per decade and the decline increases to 1%-2% per year after age 50. 1 Lifestyle Family Fitness offers programs for older adults to help counter-act bone loss and to improve overall health as we age.
“Two programs are offered at select Lifestyle Family Fitness facilities, our SilverSneakers program and Aqua Classes,” said Geoff Dyer, Lifestyle Family Fitness Founder. “We offer Aqua classes year around and recently partnered with the Arthritis Foundation to offer Aqua classes for free to non-members during the month of October at select LFF locations.”
Lifestyle Aqua is an exercise class designed to invigorate and improve cardiovascular conditioning, total body strength and endurance using the resistance of the water. The workout is fun and safe and is designed for older adults. During the month of October, the Arthritis Foundation invites local residents to eight FREE Aqua class at two of our locations in Venice and Beneva. This offer also includes complete usage of our clubs.
SilverSneakers is a fun, energizing program that helps older adults take control of their healthy life by encouraging physical activity and social events. Lifestyle Family Fitness offers the program through Medicare health plans and supplement carriers. The class is designed to increase muscular strength, and range of movement. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, Silver Sneakers ball and chair is used for seated and/or standing support.
